Under Swiss mandatory basic health insurance (Obligatorische Krankenpflegeversicherung / Grundversicherung), my fees are not covered, as is the case for many independent therapists in Switzerland.
Under supplementary health insurance (Zusatzversicherung) and international health insurance, my fees may be partially or fully covered, depending on your plan. Please consult your insurance provider to clarify.
Even if you find a therapist who is covered under Grundversicherung, keep in mind: they usually have waitlists for new clients. And depending on your deductible (from CHF 300 up to CHF 2,500) and how much of it you’ve already used, you’d still need to pay the remaining deductible before insurance kicks in – and after that, a self-contribution of 10% of the cost, up to a cap of CHF 700 per year.
With self-pay, you can start right away, not in weeks or months, and many clients need fewer sessions than they expect.
If waiting for insurance coverage is a requirement for you, I’d rather be upfront about that now than after you’ve booked a call.
